More than two weeks na ang Mommy (lola sa Mama’s side) sa ospital. There were bad days, and not-so-bad days. Yung ibang kamaganak namin, ang madalas na tanong sa Mommy ay, “Uuwi na tayo?” kahit super unknown pa naman kung kelan talaga makakauwi ang Mommy. Feeling ko nakukulitan na ang Mommy kasi paulit-ulit na uuwi raw pero hindi naman nangyayare. Hindi nya pa kayang magsalita, pero sa mga times na nasa mood sya or may energy syang mag-respond, tumatango lang sya or umiiling. And if we’re lucky, she smiles 🥹

Tagal nyang nakapisil sa kamay ko 🤍

Today’s Log #22 | Days Lately

February 13, 2025

6:00 AM

Woke up, shat, wrote on my digital journal about yesterday’s happenings, read a newsletter, saw vomit (probably Walnut’s) and cleaned that up, fed the kitties, and scooped their litter. This is my morning routine nowadays.

8:00 AM

I decided I’ll have the pork ribs from Costco. I can air-fry them from frozen, so it’s a quick prep. I still have some roasted veggies from yesterday that I can pair it with. Kaso ang dry. Wala akong sauce or dip. So I asked ChatGPT for suggestions and settled on an easy sauce using ingredients I already have: garlic butter soy sauce. I can pour it over the crispy ribs to give them a little bit of moisture.

I’m half-listening to Trevor Noah’s podcast while making the sauce. I think they’re talking about the loneliness epidemic.

Holiday Season 2024

Christmas Eve

Simula nung nag-move kami sa Canada, parang Dec 24 talaga yung Christmas day. Kasi ito yung day na may handaan at games. Samin kasi noon Dec 25 mismo may pakana. After 6 Christmases in Winnipeg, we celebrated this year’s Christmas in a different city with different people. Actually wala kaming planong mag-celebrate kasi sobrang preoccupied pa rin namin sa pag-move. Kung wala pang nag-invite samin, baka nag-takeout lang kami ng pagkain at nanood ng The Voice Season 26. Masaya na kami nun. Pero since naka-receive kami ng invitation from Kenneth’s former dorm mate, mas okay yun kasi makakakain kami ng mas masarap na food hehe.

Yung mga pinuntahan namin ngayon, ito yung mga popular na attractions. Akala ko mga napuntahan ko na pero hindi pa pala. Kaya ang saya na first time namin pare-pareho.

Morning festivities

Hindi pa sumasagot yung Airbnb host tungkol sa shower. Kasi nakalagay naman sa listing nila may hot water. Iniisip ko 8 days pa kami dito tapos ice tubig yung ipanliligo namin araw-araw?? Huhu noooo!

This trip is 8 months old pero sinipag akong i-document. Nung umuwi ako ng 2022, ang side trip namin ay Bohol. This year, excited ako kasi first time ng Mama at ni Tricia sa Japan! Winter yung visit namin kaya ang hassle, kasi mga makakapal na jackets ang dala namin. Nagkasakit rin ako dahil sa extended exposure sa lamig, plus yung pagod paglalakad. Nagkaron pa ng drama at iyakan nung huling parts ng trip. Haha!

18 Things I Wish I Knew When I Was 18

Happy 18th birthday Isabellyyyy!

I am almost 36 y/o, which means I’m writing this 18 years after I turned 18. La lang. Naisip ko lang.

  1. Choose a course in college that aligns with your personality as much as possible. This will help avoid confusion in the coming years. You know this already. Don’t be like me.
  2. Be nicer to your parents and sister (and of course grandma). You never know which path you’ll choose later in the future, so make the most of your time together while you’re still close in proximity.

    Now that I’m older, I regret most of the time that I chose to hangout with friends over my family—so try to balance the two (giving more favor towards family).

Happy Things #23

It’s been a while! There have been many things to feel unhappy about recently, but there were still moments to be grateful for despite the past heavy months.

Drawing our portraits

Kenneth and I went to a community market and saw Bea, my illustrator friend, with her sister, also an artist. They were selling art prints and other cutesy artsy stuff. Aside from the prints and stickers, her sister also offers 5-minute live portraits for $5, and that’s what caught my interest. We had our portraits drawn and it was super cute!

The following week while we were doing our couples deck session, we drew a wild card and it prompted us to draw each other’s portraits for only 1 minute!

🤣

Haha that was fun.

Missing My Tall Little Sister

I am currently relistening to Mark Manson’s ‘backwards law’ podcast episode, and I found myself involuntarily reaching for my copy of The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck, which my sister gave as a bon voyage gift when we moved to Canada in 2018.

My sister filled this book with pictures of us, photos of our favorite movie/tv characters, inside jokes, and sweet messages. I haven’t finished this book yet, which means I haven’t read everything she had written down, and I love that there are still sweet notes to uncover after 6 years.

Nagising, nag-poop, nagtimbang.

My toilet companions

Nag-gain nanaman ako. And for the first time ever, mas magaan na sakin si Kenneth. Almost 10kg na kasi yung na-lose nya ever since nagstart syang mag-keto diet at mag-workout almost everyday. Ugghh hindi ko kaya yung discipline nya. Minsan nakaka-inspire pero minsan nakaka-demotivate. But ultimately, I’m proud of him because he did this all by himself. Walang nag-push or nag-pressure sa kanya. Nanood lang kami nung docuseries sa Netflix na You Are What You Eat at yun na! Bigla na lang syang nag-decide maging healthy. That was 6 months ago and he never stopped. Hays, sana kaya ko din yung ganun.
